If you are dreaming to be a mermaid or merman, a Freediving course will be your closest way to make your dream come true unless scientists invent a way for humans to have gills. As a PADI Freediver, you can explore the world beneath the waves and enjoy closer and longer animal encounters with minimal scuba equipment.
Here you are 4 things you can only do if you are a freediver:
-
Fascinating Wildlife Encounters
Many underwater animals can be afraid of the noisy bubbles exhaled by scuba divers. On the other hand freedivers have quiet, sleek and more approachable diving.
-
Enjoy a Journey of Inner Exploration
As a freediver, you will learn how to subdue your body’s natural urges while being as relaxed as possible. The more you develop your freediving skills.
The more you improve your physical and mental stamina in a surprising way. You will also apply the mindfulness and breathing techniques that you have learnt to handle uncomfortable and stressful situations.

-
Defy Science
Dr. Kevin Fong (a physiology professor) confirmed that in the early days of freediving, many physiologists were pretty convinced to say that scuba divers can’t dive beyond 131 feet (40 meters) and if any diver has gone beyond that, his lungs will be crushed. On the other hand, freedivers decided to take the challenge and swam until they passed these theoretical limits.
Freediving unlocked the hidden superpower of the human body – the reflex of the Mammalian Diving. Your body is getting affected by the water, as when your face touches it, the blood is redirected to the vital organs and the heart rate slows down as a result.
At the end, your body automatically creates a constant pressure in the chest cavity to keep your organs from being crushed.
-
Try Underwater Freedom
Most freedivers have experienced the freediving experience by “ it is like flying underwater”. As a freediver, you will try the weightless feeling of scuba diving, as without all the restriction of the scuba gear, your movement becomes easier.
The powerful freediving fins that you will wear, will make you spin, glide and somersault like a seal.
Learn to How to Be a Freediver

In the PADI Freediver course, you will be taught many breath-holding techniques that can help you gradually increase the time and the depth of your dives.
During the Freediver course, you will learn the following:
- Basic static apnea (breath-holding techniques while floating).
- Dynamic apnea (breath-holding techniques while swimming).
- Free immersion (how to pull yourself along a line).
- Constant weight freediving (headfirst duck diving while you are following a line).
In the freediving course, you will practice scuba diving to 16 meters and learn about the needed scuba equipment for freediving, important buddy procedures and safety rules.
If you get your Basic PADI Freediving certification and have found your passion in freediving, you can get additional training by getting your seat in:
- PADI Advanced Freediver course – in which you will expand your knowledge and skills in free immersion, constant weight freediving, dynamic apnea and static apnea. You will explore till 25 meters deep (80 feet).
- PADI Master Freediver course – in which you will continue your skills and knowledge in dynamic apnea, static apnea, constant weight and free immersion freediving. In this course, you will increase the depth of your dives to 40 meters (130 feet).
